Most of us don't start thinking about our health until it begins failing us. A precious few live their life with their physical health fueling their lifestyle decisions when they are children and young adults, but on the whole, we don't give what we put into our bodies much thought until something goes wrong, which is usually much further down the road. Careers, buying a home, building wealth, raising a family, traveling and a slue of other things dominate our time, attention, and finances so much so that investing in our long-term health takes a back burner to the things that promise more of a return on our investment. And it doesn't help that we all know someone who knows someone who drank and smoked and ate a donut every morning for 98 years before dying peacefully in their sleep, seemingly free of disease or any ailments. So who's to say that our diet and lifestyle really matter? My answer to that is: it does, we just don’t want to accept that. It's sad to me that we have moved from a place of IF we get sick to WHEN we get sick. It has become commonplace to get to a point in our lives where pharmaceutical drugs are part of our daily diet and where we are resigned to the fact that with aging comes lack of energy, weight gain and the lack of motivation to stay healthy and to do things. Of course, there are always the exceptions and the anomalies out there, but as a whole, this is what we're seeing.
While there are no promises or guarantees of ROI’s with any of the categories of life that we put time and money into that I mentioned earlier, I do believe that living healthy, vibrant, prescription-free lives is possible if we invest in our health with as much determination as we invest in all the other areas of our lives, if not more. If you don't have the ability to enjoy retirement, take the trips you've been saving for, pay off the dream home or be alive to spend the time with the people you've invested in, how is that helpful? In my humble opinion, that is a huge gamble. And even though we are all witnessing the increase in disease and obesity around us, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. It is never too late to invest in your health, and any time is better than AFTER the diagnosis. Small changes to diet and lifestyle can help you see benefits and gain momentum towards turning your health around or to get a jumpstart on a preventative approach to overall wellness. With so much conflicting information out there, having someone come alongside to educate, navigate and support you during your health journey can be the help and motivation you need to get going and to implement sustainable changes into your daily life.
